Who Do We Serve?

The Helpline volunteers talk with over 400 West Seattle residents each and every month. These are clients on fixed-income, seniors, single parents, the working poor, people with disabilities, students, those new to our area or newly unemployed or the person who had some unexpected financial difficulties.

Did you know.....

►The top three causes of bankruptcy among families with children are income loss, divorce, separation and medical bills.

►One in every five persons is living at less than twice the federal poverty level, or about $43,000 a year for a family of four.

►One in eight families in this region has two adults working full time but still qualifies as poor.

 Many of our clients have never had to ask for help before and our volunteers help them feel comfortable while educating them as to their resources.

In addition to direct financial assistance, numerous phone referrals are made each month on behalf of people living both in and outside of West Seattle to link them with needed services.
